6 Truck Delivery Methods in U.S.

  1. Direct delivery (Direct to Consumer, DTC):

If the logistics service includes last-mile delivery and the destination is a residential or commercial address of an individual customer, then the truck may deliver the goods directly to the final consignee. This method is typically applicable to the delivery of large items such as e-commerce orders, furniture, and appliances.

2. Delivery to distribution center or warehouse (Delivery to Distribution Center or Warehouse):

In some cases, trucks will first transport goods to a designated distribution center or warehouse, after which other vehicles (such as minivans or courier services) will perform the final sorting and delivery. This is commonly seen in the replenishment of goods for retail chains or in the supply chain management of large enterprises.

3. Multi-stop Delivery:

For goods that need to be delivered to multiple different locations, truck drivers will visit each site sequentially during a single trip to complete the delivery. In this model, although not all goods will reach the final user in one go, each stop means that part of the goods are directly delivered to their destination.

4. FBA or other third-party warehousing facilities (Fulfillment by Amazon or 3rd Party Warehouses):

When it comes to services like Amazon FBA, trucks deliver goods to Amazon fulfillment centers or other third-party storage facilities for further processing before shipping to the final consumer. For such services, trucks do not deliver directly to the consumer’s doorstep but serve as part of an intermediary link.

5. Commercial Address Delivery

If the destination is a business address (e.g. corporate office, factory, store), the truck can deliver the goods directly to that address. Delivery in this case is usually a one-time delivery of an entire shipment or a large number of items.

6. Residential Address Delivery

For deliveries to private residential addresses, especially when goods of larger size or weight are involved, additional handling equipment or manpower support may be required to ensure that the goods are delivered and installed safely and efficiently.
